Events During The Mexican-American War

  • 05/13/1846: The United States declares war on Mexico. Congress approved the war 2 days after President Polk stated that Mexico had "invaded our territory and shed American blood upon the American soil."

  • 05/23/1846: In response to America's declaration of war, Mexican President Paredes calls for war against America.

  • 05/19/1848: Mexico ratified the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, thus ending the war. The terms of the treaty were very favorable to the U.S. goals. Mexico ceded California, Nevada, Utah and parts of other modern-day U.S. states to the USA for USD $15 million.
