West Point has been a strategically located fort since before the United States was formed. It played a critical part in the Revolutionary War. It was approved in 1802 as the first U.S. military academy. Since then, many notable soldiers have graduated, including President Ulysses S. Grant and President Dwight D. Eisenhower, as well as Confederate President Jefferson Davis and Confederate military leader Robert E. Lee.

Today, West Point is available for visitors, despite the fact it is still used today. It contains a museum with artifacts dating back to the Revolutionary War.
