Major Events During Presidency

  • 07/20/1969: Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed the Apollo 11 on the moon, and became the first humans to walk on the moon. Their landing was the result of the Apollo Project, which had the successful mission of landing a man on the moon before the end of the decade.
  • 08/17/1969: Hurricane Camille, a Category 5 storm, first struck landfall in Louisiana. In the end, the storm is responsible for 259 deaths and $1.4 billion (1969 dollars) in damages.
  • 07/01/1971: 26th amendment ratified, granting voting rights to all citizens over the age of 18.
